Stand Up for Head Start: Sign On to MFSN’s Public Statement

On August 7, 2026, the Administration for Children and Families released a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (NPRM), also called “Reducing Federal Burden for Head Start Programs.” The proposed changes would eliminate or revise nearly all regulations governing Head Start, with potential impacts on children, staff, families, and communities.
The Mississippi Farm to School Network is gravely concerned about these proposed changes. At a time when children and families are facing rising food costs and limited access to health care, we need strong, comprehensive early childhood systems that support children and families, as well as the teachers and staff who care for and educate them.
The Mississippi Farm to School Network encourages folks who care about Head Start as well as early childhood education, development, and nutrition to leave a public comment. The NPRM comment period remains open through October 6, 2026. You can also make your voice heard by submitting a public comment and sharing your perspective on how these proposed changes could affect children, families, staff, and communities.
